Real Bride - Lindi
Lindi is one of the INCREDIBLY special brides that we have known for many years. This particular wedding and blog post holds a very special place in our heart as Lindi has been a #realblackeyedsusie from the beginning. We have had the tremendous honour of taking a personal journey with Lindi, from making her Matric Dance Dress, her 21st party dress, her graduation dress and most recently her wedding dress (not to mention a few special occasion susies in between ;)). We have watched her grow into the incredibly beautiful, strong, gentle hearted, caring woman she is today. We are overjoyed that she has found her other half, the man who completes her...

Tell us how you met your partner (please include the proposal story:))
Juan and I met in our first year at varsity. We started dating about a month after we met. Last year we had been together for just over 5 years and my family was down in Cape Town for Easter. He had organised with his family and my family to do an Easter egg hunt for the kids. Juan hid the engagement ring in a solid tin egg and sent me off to “hunt” with the youngsters. When I found this egg up in the tree I opened it and my engagement ring fell out. I was so blessed to have some of the family from Jo’burg and my future in-laws be part of the special occasion.

When and Where did you get married?
We got married on 21 March 2016, at Fraaigelegen Wedding and Reception Venue.

What made you choose the venue and the date?
We wanted a venue that could accommodate us in the summer, and we went around scouting for venues, but when we came across this venue Juan was immediately drawn to it. We decided that we would like to get married more or less around our six year “anniversary”, and to our surprise the venue was available so we IMMEDIATELY booked! :)

What was the theme of your wedding?

The venue has a very rustic/country feel to it, and we opted for something that would go well with the feel of the venue.
Any tips for future brides when choosing a theme?
Choose a theme that you feel comfortable with, something that you enjoy and that makes you and your partner happy!

Did you DIY anything for your wedding? If so were you happy with your results?
We did everything ourselves, the invites, the flower arrangements, the décor, the table settings, programmes, our wedding cake and the “Thank you’s”!
(My aunt has a creative knack and she helped out BIG TIME with the flowers and the wedding cake!)
I was really happy with everything and the way it all came together, really something that I could be proud of.
Any advice for Future Brides who would like to DIY aspects of their wedding?
PINTEREST is the way to go!

What made you choose the dress you chose?
Blackeyed Susan holds a very special place in my heart and I absolutely adore the brand! I knew before I was even engaged that I would most probably wear a ‘Susie’ on my wedding day. I never went to try on any other wedding dresses, as I knew that Blackeyed Susan would have something gorgeous to offer! I went and tried on a few dresses from the bridal collection and immediately knew what I wanted. With a tweak here and there, my wedding dress was sorted.

How was your experience with fitting your dress and the final product?
It was a breeze! I could not have imagined anything different, I absolutely loved my dress!
What made you choose your bridesmaid dresses?
Naturally my bridesmaids would also wear Blackeyed Susan. Due to the look and feel of the theme and the venue, I wanted my girls to feel comfortable and I wanted them to look just as gorgeous in their dresses. After booking the venue and finalising the theme for the wedding I decided on the Floral Garden Party dress in Ivory. The colour scheme and the floral arrangements were done to match the bridesmaids’ dresses.

Any advice or tips for bride-to-be’s when choosing their dream dress?
Choose a dress that you feel comfortable in. Choose something that “wow’s” YOU.

Your beautiful documentary style photos were taken by “Kiekie photo”. Why did you choose them to capture your special day?
They were recommended by good friends of ours. We compared the packages they had to offer with a few other photographers and we decided that what they had to offer was best suited for our budget. After we had met them, we knew that we had made the right decision – Ronelle and Daniel are such a fun-loving couple and we had a blast with them during the session after the wedding! :)

Would you change anything, (or do anything different) about your day?
Nothing. Everything was perfect. The ceremony, the food, the company, being surrounded by our family and friends – we could not have asked for a better day and way to celebrate our wedding day.

What was your most memorable/favourite part of your special day?

Favourite: Being introduced as “Mrs Mirfin”
Memorable: Having my mom walk me down the aisle and having her spend such a memorable day with us. She passed away shortly after we got married and I am so blessed when I look at the photos and know that we had created so many happy memories planning the wedding.

Any advice for future brides for the overall planning of their wedding and how to deal with their nerves on the day?
“Don’t sweat the small stuff” – My aunt and uncle had said that to me just after we got engaged and it stuck with me throughout the planning stages.
