Tell us how you met your partner (please include the proposal story)
Anton and I have known about each other for a long time. My mother had a flower shop in Paarl and Anton’s grandmother worked there, she would often look after me in the afternoons when I returned from school. I knew she had a grandson, Anton, but I had never met him.
When I was around 10 years old Anton and his family moved to Paarl. In grade 10 I finally met Anton at Sunday school, and it was not love at first sight. He was the irritating boy in the class who would not be quiet and would ask a million questions, I would be constantly rolling my eyes at him.
After we left school we didn't cross paths again until we ended up meeting each other on a dating app. We connected instantly and we began dating.
Our engagement story is pretty awesome.
Anton is a journalist and worked for a company that does a yearly Regatta at the Cape Royal Yacht Club. One year he invited me to accompany him, but on that particular day it was raining and so he suggested that I go to the Waterfront and entertain myself. I did just that, but as time passed I became despondent as I was spending the entire day by myself and running out of things to do. Finally, he told me to come to the club. I waited at the bar for a while before he came out and told me that his boss wanted him to go on a boat to fetch some VIP clients at the Waterfront, and he asked if I wanted to go with.
So we’re on the boat and I’m completely under the impression that we’re going to fetch clients. He seemed nervous but I didn’t really think anything of it.
Finally, the boat stopped and the skipper told us that we could go to the front of the boat if we liked. There we sat and chatted for a while before he told me that it was a special day and he got out the ring and asked me to marry him!
When and Where did you get married?
We got married on 19 August 2017 at Backsberg Estate in Klapmuts. It was a morning wedding and Lee-Ann, our coordinator, did a such a fantastic job!
The ceremony took place at 09:30 in the morning in the cellar and we had our reception in the restaurant. It was such a beautiful day, we all went outside after the formalities and just relaxed.
What made you choose the venue and the date?
I wanted to have it at a location that had great photo opportunities. We had to consider our budget and Backsberg seemed to cover everything. The prices were great, the farm is beautiful and Lee-Ann really made a great influence on our decision.
What was the theme of your wedding?

Not much of a theme… just wanted it to be a very chilled out vibe, no real formalities. I wanted everyone to enjoy themselves and relax. That was one of the reasons we chose to have a morning wedding. It started at 09h30 and lasted past 17h00. Colours were simple, corals and greens. Proteas on the table and desert roses.
How did you hear about Blackeyed Susan?
Facebook! I’ve always wanted a long sleeve, open back dress. A page someone shared on Facebook caught my eye and I went to have a look. To my surprise the dress of my dreams was on the website!
What made you choose the dress you chose?
I liked that the dress style was simpler, I’m not one for a big poofy dress. It was a morning wedding so I didn’t want anything to be over the top. The dress was perfect, it ticked all my boxes and fitted in with everything.

How was your experience with fitting your dress and the final product?
Wonderful! I emailed Melissa a couple of times and we set up a date to view. My mom and dad went with me and when they saw the dress they also agreed that it was my dress. I had one minor adjustment which Melissa did and then I went to pick up the dress. I only ever fitted that one dress.

Any advice or tips for bride-to-be’s when choosing their dream dress?
I only fitted one dress because I knew from the start what I wanted. My tip is to really look at magazines and websites and get a clear idea of what you want. If you don’t do that you will end up fitting a million dresses and confusing yourself.

Your beautiful documentary style photos were taken by: Nadine Aucamp Photography Why did you choose this photographer to capture your special day?
She’s amazing! She did a shoot for me a couple of years back. I don’t enjoy being in front of the camera, I’m always feel awkward, but Nadine made me feel so relaxed. It’s this reason that made us choose her again. She was such a pro, she made us all laugh and feel comfortable. Her photos are very natural and I love that about her. She also knows how to capture both beautiful and funny moments.
What was your most memorable/favourite part of your special day?
For me, it was having my brother there and having him drive the wedding car. He lives in Mpumalanga so I don’t see him that often. When I climbed out of the car and saw my dad for the first time, that was really special, he looked so handsome! My dad and I are very close. And of course the moment I walked down the aisle and saw Anton’s face, that was the best moment!
Any advice for future brides for the overall planning of their wedding and how to deal with their nerves on the day?
Nerves… drink Birol, my bridesmaid Nicolette gave me that tip. Overall planning, make lists, check things off, double check, drive out and go look at places. For me it was important to have a hands on experience as I wanted to make sure everything was going went to plan. It also helped that my mother had a flower shop back in the day and has hands on experience with floral decor!

1 Corinthians 13:4–7 ESV
Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
